Singing Truth to Power

Lydia Violet Harutoonian

With divisive politics, climate change and a pandemic to worry about, it is difficult to see a positive way forward. But for musician, composer and teacher Lydia Violet Harutoonian imagination and creative presence offer a dependable ground from which to respond to these and other challenges. Harutoonian draws deeply from the thoughts and insights of Buddhist scholar and ecologist Joanna Macy. Harutoonian was in Fairbanks this summer and I had a chance to visit with her.

  1. This has been one of the most powerful and impactful conversations I have ever heard. Robert expertly facilitated the conversation while Lydia embodied speaking their truth and honoring their linage of ancestors and mentors. Quyana for all the creation you bring to the world Lydia and to you Robert for making space for this visitation to blossom.

  2. So wonderful! This really seems to be what’s needed! Changing hearts, healing through music will get us on the same page. I’m so grateful to have Lydia Violet and your show to listen too. Music has switched me from despair during bombing Afghanistan after 9/11 to hopefulness.
Buddhism so resonates with me , there’s such acceptance of people who are different than one, Christian, Buddhist, Islam . There is so much fear of difference in religion, skin color, economic status. This starts us in a better direction. Thank you!
